How TikTok Live Sew Alongs Helped Build a Sewing Community and Grow My Small Business

When I first started Crafting Therapy Shop, my mission was simple: to create beautiful, functional handcrafted items that bring joy and comfort to others. But over time, I realized something was missing — connection. I wasn’t just creating for customers, I was creating with purpose, and I wanted to share that joy with others. That’s when I decided to try something new: TikTok Live Sew Alongs.

In January 2025, going live on TikTok was a leap of faith. I didn’t know if anyone would watch or even care. But I began showing up consistently, guiding viewers through beginner-friendly sewing projects like corner bookmarks, zipper pouches, cozies, and keychains. I explained how to measure and cut fabric, how to sew boxed corners, and even how to fix mistakes — because we all make them!

My goal wasn’t to be perfect; it was to be real, encouraging, and approachable. I wanted people to see that sewing isn’t just a skill — it’s a therapeutic, creative outlet anyone can enjoy.

More people are finding Crafting Therapy Shop through TikTok and visiting the (new and improved!) website to explore products and resources. Some viewers who started sewing with me have become loyal viewers, and others have reached out to share photos of their creations, inspired by what they’ve learned during the lives.

Beyond the boost in visibility and sales, the biggest reward has been the relationships. I’m not just running a shop anymore — I’m part of a growing movement that’s reconnecting people with the JOY of creating by hand.
